Ft. Dagan & Da Kine Sound
Dagan and Da Kine Sound is a Hawaiian folk music project from Hawaiʻi Island, created by Waimea singer-songwriter Dagan Bernstein with musical support from Honokaʻa musician and educator Brad Bordessa. The collaboration unites Dagan’s songwriting and performance with Brad’s instrumental depth, blending respect for Hawaiian tradition with fresh arrangements and original compositions.
Dagan’s solo work includes the full-length album Song for Waimea, a collection of mele inspired by the people and places of his hometown, and the EP Hoʻāle: I’m Coming Home, reflecting on his youth in South Kona. Mentored by Braddah Smitty of The Sons of Hawaiʻi, his music is distinguished by fingerpicked guitar, rich vocals, and place-based storytelling.
Brad, a student of slack-key master George Kahumoku Sr., is a seasoned performer and recording artist known for his multi-instrumental work and his contributions as a ukulele teacher. His bass playing and vocal harmonies provide a strong foundation for the project’s sound.
Together as Dagan and Da Kine Sound, the project reimagines Hawaiian classics from the 1970s while shaping new original songs. Performing across Kohala and Hāmākua, Dagan and Brad are preparing for the release of new recordings in Fall 2025.
